Students at Buffalo State College have the opportunity to major in social work or minor in social welfare. Please see below to determine the steps to take to be accepted into the program.

Prospective undergraduate students interested in studying at SUNY Buffalo State must apply through the Undergraduate Admissions Office. First-year and transfer students who have fewer than 45 credit hours completed are assigned to pre-social work.
If you currently a Buffalo State College freshman or sophmore interested in majoring in Social Work you may be eligible to become a pre-major. Pre-majors receive advisement, including information on pre-requisite requirements for the Social Work major.

Eligible students may schedule an appointment with the Department Chair. Students should bring the completed Social Work Application with them to the appointment. Students should complete the Social Work Orientation prior to their appointment.

The Social Work Department offers a Minor in Social Welfare. Social Work students can not major in Social Work and minor in Social Welfare. Students minoring in Social Welfare can not practice as a social worker.
